As an outdoor destination, Dullstroom, with activities ranging from horse-riding and fishing to mountain biking and wild-life, you and your kids will love the broad range of fun places to explore, seemingly made just for them.
Dullstroom is arguably South Africa’s fly-fishing capital, offering excellent still water and river fishing.

Dullstroom has hundreds of kilometres’ spectacular all weather trails, downhill tracks, freeride hotspots, and wild natural trails.
Owner Callen Watson is an experienced mountain bike rider and technician in Dullstroom that can give guidance on beginner trails for kids. He also conducts cycling clinics on request.

Mavungana – Main Road:

A must see when visiting Dullstroom. Children love the wild bird shows and happily spend hours there with the shows.
There is also a children’s fishing pond, small “zoo” of rescued and rehabilitated small wildlife, and then of course, all the birds.
They believe that the wellbeing of our animals is always our number one priority, not the fiscal aspect of the activities on offer for public entertainment.
Be sure to pack extra water and cold-drinks, and sunscreen and wear a hat!

Trout Hatchery Tours
Situated at Dunkeld Estate in Dullstroom, a world-class, state-of-the-art trout breeding facility that’s sustainable and through the recirculation of water, provides trout with an optimal habitat.
It’s environmentally friendly and a sustainable operation that – without any detrimental effects to the ecosystem and environment.
Due to strict health controls, only guided tours that have been made by prior arrangement are allowed.
Verloren Valei Nature Reserve
A protected nature reserve roughly 13km outside Dullstroom. It is one of few places in the country to breed all three of the world’s endangered cranes.
In English it’s translated to “Lost Valley”.
Guided tours around the reserve to sight the blue crane, the wattled crane, and the crowned crane are by appointment only.
The reserve is an international Ramsar wetlands site and enjoys international importance.
An interlinked series of over 30 wetlands is home to significant birds, including red data species, so it is understandable that Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve is serious about providing a safe refuge to its countless birds.
Dave Curtis will take anyone from baby to biltong, and tailor accordingly.
There are also often pony rides, approx. 10 minutes long, most weekends, where kids are led about the field.
Plan your day in advance on spending the day at one of the most scenic equestrian estates in the country.
R160 per car gate fee, gives access to indoor a swimming pool, fishing, and hiking within the Estate. You can also book horse-riding in advance – so be sure to plan well!
